Introducing... the Copywriter from Space ?

The screen shots you see here are from the J.Crew website as of June 13, 2011. The actual content has since been taken down, and the items carried in the handbag of a less notorious employee have been substituted. So in case any of the devoted fans of the CFS missed the display and tribute (off-beat drum roll), look left (or right, depending upon how the little elves that compose in the Blogger tree are interpreting "float" tonight--anyway, look around):

Well. There was more in the same vein. Alison loves her job, her clothes, her apartment, her neighborhood....

I am glad to learn Alison can find thesarus.com.

I note that neither version was in her purse. Perhaps one or the other is in a desk drawer. Somewhere.

  1. "Wedge of Allegiance"??? And proud enough to cite it? No comment. Thanks for posting, missed this little gem.

  4. LOL WFF! Great post.

Perhaps she should use that thesaurus to look up a new word for "obsessed."

  5. The lousy copy @ jcrew.com is one of my pet peeves. Not only does it often misrepresent the actual product, there is so much repetition. We're obsessed. We want one in every color. It's our favorite (insert item here) of the season. Borrowed from the boys.

    Wordsmith my foot.

  6. Some sleuthing on your part, and I'm grateful. Yes, Alison overuses 'obsessed.' But, her most egregious infraction is the constant deploymnet of parentheses. God save the English language.

  7. dani, kitsmommy, xoxo, and kikki cee, great comments all!

I just went through the J.Crew look book on the website, and at the end there's a page of Polaroid snaps, taken by the "Commander in Chic." I guess things can always get worse.

  8. Good post. If she's thrifting so much, maybe she hasn't gotten hit w/the crewlade enough to be inspired by other words. I, for one, am obsessed! about the usual repeats we see.

  9. Hilarious. Your post of course, not the copies.

  13. Hi, Kate, too bad the page was up for such a short time or a local paper might have picked up the story: "Local girl makes goof." oh, come on, auto-correct, no editorializing.

  14. Thanks for the hilarious post! Glad you were able to save the screenshot.

  16. Seriously. Laughed. Out. Loud. when I first saw this online. And oh, gee whiz... wonder why the page got updated so quick? Hmmm??? Thanks for the funny post.

  17. Hi, Closet Crisis, I'm still giggling too.

  18. If in the right frame of mind, I'd chuckle over Wedge of Allegiance and the like. I've been glazing over we're obsessed for quite some time now and don't get excited over the world-famous mill bit like I used to. But please, please, whoever writes or checks the copy ... can you just make the descriptions accurate?! Don't say the dress falls to knee when it does not come close, even on someone 5'2". And leather soles tend to be a crap shoot, with once in a blue moon leather soles when it's described as man-made.

  19. Hi, tiffany rose, don't forget jackets that fall to (someone's) hip or high hip - what is a high hip anyway? And as for skirts or dresses that fall to the floor, well, so would I if you pushed me. But that doesn't matter, because I already know the distance from my waist to the top of my foot.
