If you read my last post, I assume you were dazzled by the restrained elegance with which I planned to greet the New Year. Foie gras, little toasts, Cristal... Well, last night (the 30th) the foie gras disappeared. Himself may have had something to do with it and truth to tell, I may have helped. Ran to the butcher this morning and returned with a rib roast. So my visions of sipping elegantly with Alain Delon (when young) have been replaced by thoughts of slurping with Henry VIII (in his Charles Laughton stage).

People congregate outdoors in our neighborhood around midnight, if your apartment doesn't face due west you need to go outside to see the fireworks. The bang/boom starts at midnight and is the kick-off of the Emerald Nuts Race, sponsored by the NY Road Runners. Just hoping His Majesty doesn't get carried away and throw the bones off the terrace. Imagine stepping outside in sequins and furs and being hit by...Nothin' wrong with a good meal, it's just that enough people don't have them.

wow, that Alain Delon is quite the dish! From afar, he looks like a young Martin Sheen, who I love as well -- have you ever seen Badlands? Anyhoo, Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi, Dinster, the technical term is "mmmmm." Happy New YeaR to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I had a HUGE crush on Alain Delon as I was growing up!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, WFF! Looking forward to reading more funny stories here!
I am not sure why, but your menu change made me think of The Chef at War, a book I first saw on the EU Anthro site.
ReplyDeleteIt might have to do with having to suddenly give up elegance. Still, elegance or not, it sounds like a great choice.
Happy New Year, Rose! Yes, he's the stuff dreams are made of!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Cris! I just looked up The Chef At War, it sounds like a good read. Of course the restaurant kitchen is the only military dictatorship that works. Even as law school stereotypically kicks off with "Look to the left, look to the right, one of you won't be here next term," a cook starts out by learning "The kitchen is not a democracy." I love the idea of M.. Soyer setting out for the Crimea with his knife roll and self-confidence. Wonder if he got to cook for Florence Nightingale?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year WFF!
ReplyDeleteI think that I will order it! Might find some useful tricks in it.
Happy New Year, WFF! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Fred! Warm wishes for a wonderful 2012.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful 2012 WWF!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Purple Noon? Watched it years ago and I had the worst crush on Alain Delon for the loooongest time. Gonna go look for it on Netflix, it's such a classic.
Happy New Year, Gigi, xoxo, Closet Crisis!
