For the same price I can buy this charming little book from Anthro,

or I can buy these shoes.

Or I can buy neither which would be the sane thing to do right about now.

We're planning a quiet New Year's
I have a new library book
Dreams and laughter, hopes and fears
take second place to "who's gonna cook?"

A bottle of Cristal awaits
a present from one dear to us
and whether he'll be near to us
next year is with the Fates.

Himself has bought some foie gras
I shall make some toast
Joyful hellos, sad good-byes,
Gleeful giggles, rueful sighs,
And you who read the blog I host
lift a glass with us at midnight - hurrah!

An early Happy New Year to you, WellFedFred. Your plans for a quiet New Year's celebration sound heavenly to me. We are on the Gulf Coast so I plan to check out the J Crew at the Beach tomorrow, stop in at a local Italian restaurant for something good to eat, and then settle in for the Auburn- Virginia Bowl game...War Eagle! The wine and cheese assortment will probably dictate the evening continue at home rather than deal with the crowds gathering here for the annual Beach Ball drop!

  2. I loved both the shoes and the book. Luckily they are not available on the EU site - for the time being - so I don't have to fight the temptation.

To you and Himself I wish a great New Year, your plans for the evening sound perfect!

  3. Sounds like a very enjoyable evening wellfedfred! I wish you and himself a very Happy New Year! :)

DH and I plan to celebrate at home with our boys and the neighbors (now friends after oh so many years living here). We are fortunate that from our property we can see the fireworks from Disney World, Universal Studios, and the other local area attractions. This means no fighting the crowds to take the boys to see them...yay! I think we will be lighting a bonfire, roasting marshmallows, and ringing in the New Year quietly.

  4. Hi, SouthernBellePhD, and Happy New Year to you and yours! Um, it seems people in this house are lacking in self-restraint, because the foie gras vanished last night, and I have just returned from the butcher with a rib roast. I'm sure we'll love it, but it's more Henry VII than Alain Delon. Tomorrow's Giant game was moved to prime time, which means the die-hard ticket holders have to get to and from the world's most inconvenient stadium at the world's most inconvenient times. We seem to be drawn to entities that do not appreciate their fans, Himself to the Giants, I to J.Crew. Sigh.

  5. Hi, Cris, Happy New Year! The slender and elegant plans have morphed into a big roast beef (see above), but I'm past caring. The description of the book is worth reading, it's style no. 24198665 on the US site, and I will refrain from further comment.

  6. Hi, FFM, Happy New Year to you and yours! I adore fireworks on the beach, we watch the Central Park fireworks from our apartment. These kick off the NY Road Runners' midnight race, which is 4 miles, and a lot of people run in costume, or carrying champagne - from above we are spared the Baby New Year suits and have the benefit of the fireworks. And you may have noted that my plans for restrained elegance have gone awry. Roast Beast it is.

As Alice Roosevelt Longworth said, if you've got anything bad to say, sit next to me! No, really, please remember to be kind, and don't say anything fred's mother would not approve of (Diner's mom didn't approve of anything. Including fred.)
