File away for the fall, summer is all too short

In an earlier post this one I mentioned an atrocious recipe called Candle Salad, which I learned from a Home Ec teacher who was under the continuing delusion that she was imparting the secret of opening a festive holiday (any holiday) dinner. For sheer missing the point of food,  I thought this couldn't be topped. I was wrong.

Here is a link to an article article which provides excerpts from the Congressional Cookbook of 1933, recipes and other interesting, um, tidbits, including one for Breakfast Salad, also known as Believe-It-Or-Not-Salad:

  3. How do they know? Scary sometimes. I'm collecting screen shots of some of the weirder ones I've had, planning to post when there are enough to make a statement. Or a proverb for our times. Or something.

  4. I'd definitely look forward to a proverb from you. Or something.

Went to your post about the candle salad. Saw the penguins and got the giggles. And the more I stared at the penguins the scarier they became to me. Started imagining a three-course meal with the candle salad appetizer. My husband became concerned when he heard me trying to stifle hysterical laughter.

OK. You had to be there ... Oh! the verification is ringfuns.

As Alice Roosevelt Longworth said, if you've got anything bad to say, sit next to me! No, really, please remember to be kind, and don't say anything fred's mother would not approve of (Diner's mom didn't approve of anything. Including fred.)
